Overview
Walk with Cat works without an account. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts or precise location. Your step and health records and your photos are used only on your device and are not sent off it. To run the app, verify purchases and show ads, the app sends the information described below to external services. Usage analytics and crash reports are on from the start, and you can turn them off at any time in the app settings. We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Steps and health records
With your permission, the app reads your steps from Motion & Fitness on your iPhone or from Apple Health to show your walking history and support the cat walking features. It does not write to Apple Health. Your steps and distance, and the weight and body fat values you enter, are stored on your device and are not sent to our servers or to any analytics, advertising or other external service.
Photos
Photos you take in the app are added to your photo library only when you choose to save them. The app asks for add-only access and never reads the photos already in your library. When you choose to share, the photo is handed to the iOS share sheet and you decide where it goes. The app itself never uploads your photos.
Running the app (Google Firebase)
When the app starts, it signs in anonymously with Google Firebase and creates a random ID that does not identify you personally (the anonymous ID). For App Check, which uses Apple’s App Attest to confirm that requests come from the genuine app, for Remote Config, which delivers settings such as temporarily pausing a feature, notices and update prompts, and to get the server time used to judge event periods correctly, technical information such as the Firebase installation ID, app and OS versions, language and IP address is sent to Firebase. These requests are needed for the app to work and are separate from the usage analytics setting.
Purchases (App Store and RevenueCat)
Payments are processed by Apple; we never receive your card number or other payment details. To verify and deliver your purchases, we store the anonymous ID, the App Store transaction ID, the product ID, what was purchased, and the purchase status and dates on our purchase verification server on Firebase. We do not store the receipt itself. We also use RevenueCat to manage purchase records and send it the anonymous ID and your purchase history. RevenueCat’s automatic collection of device identifiers is turned off.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The app shows ads from Google AdMob. Ads are served as non-personalized ads that are not based on your interests, and the app does not ask for permission to use the advertising identifier (IDFA). The AdMob SDK processes your IP address (including an estimate of your general area), device identifiers, ad views and interactions, and SDK diagnostic data to serve and measure ads and to prevent fraud. In regions where consent is required, such as the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google’s consent form is shown, and you can change your choice at any time from “Ad privacy options” in the app settings. Health records and photos are never passed to the advertising SDK. See Google’s policies below for how Google handles data.
Usage analytics and crash reports
Usage analytics and crash reports are on from the start, to improve the app and investigate problems. You can turn each of them off at any time in the app settings. • Usage analytics (Firebase Analytics): records of set actions such as tutorial progress, screens opened, your walk destination, points reached and newly opened destinations, cats met, shop views, making toys, purchase starts, cancellations, failures and results, ads shown and opening the camera; which step source you chose and whether access was allowed; how much in-app currency you earned or spent and why; the product, price and currency of purchases; your current walk destination, roughly how many days since you installed, whether you have made a purchase and the app’s data version; if you installed the app from an Apple Search Ads ad, the campaign ID; and the support ID described below. Firebase Analytics also records an app instance ID, device model, OS version and approximate region (estimated from your IP address). Health records such as steps, distance and weight and values calculated from them (such as currency earned by walking), your in-app currency balance, text you type such as your cats’ names, and information that identifies a purchase transaction are not included. • Apple Search Ads: only while usage analytics is on, the app asks Apple whether the install came from an Apple ad and uses only the campaign ID for analytics. • Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): diagnostic information when the app quits unexpectedly or a known kind of error occurs, such as the device model, OS version, where the problem occurred, the app and data versions, your current walk destination, a Crashlytics identifier and the support ID. • Support ID: a random ID created for each installation. It is not linked to information that identifies you, such as your name. It is shown in the app settings and is used to find your records when you contact us. When you turn these off, nothing more is sent, the analytics data on your device is reset and unsent crash reports are deleted.
Where and how long data is kept
Firebase (Google) and RevenueCat may process and store information on servers outside Japan, including in the United States. Purchase records on the verification server are kept to confirm and restore purchases and to check refunds and fraud. Analytics data and crash reports are deleted according to each service’s retention settings.
Managing permissions and deleting data
You can revoke access to your steps in iOS privacy settings or Apple Health sharing settings, and change photo access in iOS Settings. Deleting the app removes its records from your device. If device backups include app data, manage them through Apple’s settings. Deleting the app does not delete the original records in Apple Health. To request deletion of purchase records or analytics data held on servers, contact us at the address below. Because the anonymous ID and the support ID are not linked to your identity, we may ask for the support ID shown in the app settings, or for details such as the date and product of a purchase, to find your records. We will delete them, except for records we must keep by law or to confirm purchases.
Contact and changes
We use the email address and information you provide when contacting support to reply and resolve your request. When you write to us from the app, the email includes information for investigating the problem (the support ID, app, device and OS versions, language, free storage, your step source and when steps were last imported, your walk progress, your in-app currency balance, purchase states and transaction IDs, connection states, and similar). It does not include text you typed, such as your cats’ names. You can review and delete it before sending. For privacy or deletion questions, contact support@nekotoaruku.com. If we change this policy, we will update this page and its date.
